I'm Kirsten Schofield. I'm a creative director, writer, editor, and talker interested in travel, food, music, gender, drinks, fashion, and the American South.
I'm also the creator of Dear Fancy, which you can find on both Jezebel and The Hairpin. My work has appeared in Cosmopolitan, Lucky Peach, Talking Points Memo, Serious Eats, and many other fine publications.
I'm originally from Kentucky and I just moved home. I attended the University of Virginia and got degrees in comparative literature and American history, then headed out to University of Mississippi to get a master's in Southern Studies. Before I became a freelance writer, I worked as an acquisitions editor at a small publisher, a fashion copywriter for Amazon, and a communications designer at Palantir. Most recently, I was the director of copy for Diageo, the largest liquor company in the world, giving voice to some of the most-loved brands in the business, including Ketel One, Guinness, Tanqueray, and more. I’m the creative director of my family’s lingerie company, Underpinnings.
When I'm not writing, I keep myself busy; I'm also a sommelier, and I do some light translation here and there. If you want to know more, take a look.
Would you like to collaborate on a project? Do you have a pressing need for a guest lecturer? Do you want some advice on great snack foods? Did you find a new picture of Paula Deen riding something you want to show me? Let's talk.
